Light blue eyes scanned the jumping ring closely as Nikita walked her dark bay thoroughbred mare through the gate. Noticing no one else, Nikita nodded sharply, smiling to herself as she checked her girth, pulled her stirrups down, and mounted. Tightening her black Charles Owen helmet, Nikita got comfortable in her light brown Windtec jumping saddle before picking up the reins, giving her head a quick shake and urging her mare into a walk. " Easy Abikanile... Easy pretty mare..." Nikita whispered to her spirited thoroughbred, who was practically prancing in the spot, not paying any mind to her rider. With a bump of Nikita's inside leg, Nikita spoke sharply at her mare,"Δώστε προσοχή( Pay attention)!" The dark bay mare flicked her ears back and collected her head as she walked, now soft on Nikita's hands. Nikita shook her head with a smile before giving Abikanile a little rein and clicking. The dark bay mare pushed into a working trot, keeping her relaxed frame. Nikita sat two bounces before posting to the correct diagonal.
As they came up on their second round of trot, Nikita circled the mare before sitting back and softly speaking,"Woah..." The dark bay dropped to a halt and relaxed her head as Nikita patted the mare's neck. Once again tightening her reins, Nikita asked for a trot again, turning her mare in the opposite direction.
After a few rounds of trotting, Nikita sat deep in the corner and kissed. The dark bay mare pushed into a canter, but not before letting out a buck of happiness. Nikita rolled her eyes before settling into her thoroughbred's rocking canter. Abikanile wasn't a bad horse, just very spirited and still young, being only 6. Nikita had gotten the dark bay as a present. The mare, who was a yearling at the time, had hardly ever been worked with, unlike her sister's horse, Orion, who was 4 and had already training on him. Nikita enjoyed training the young mare to what she was today.
As they rounded the corner on the third lap, Nikita made a 20 metre half-circle before asking for a flying change. The dark bay mare made the change after having to let out another buck of happiness.
After their interesting warm up, Nikita halted the mare in the middle and dismounted. "Σταθείτε (Stand), Abi..." The dark bay mare nickered, but stayed where she was as Nikita walked towards the pile of jumps that stood in the corner.
Nikita let out a sigh of relief as she finished setting up the last jump: a 3'ft/3'3 oxer. It was only a line along the one wall conisting of: a 2'3, 2'6 2'9 and the oxer, but to Nikita, it was a good feat. She usually only jumped with her sister, to show off, but here, she was working on just Abi listening and connecting with the young mare. The 5'7 girl looked over at her 17'2 hh mare, who still stood in the middle, her dark ears pricked. Nikita whistled and smiled as Abi snorted and trotted forward before slidding to a halt in front of her. "Καλό κορίτσι (Good girl) Abi...." Nikita whispered before mounting. Tightening her reins and ensuring her girth was tight enought, Nikita urged her mare to the wall.
Nikita circled her mare at a working trot before letting her mare approach the jumps. Immediately Abi pricked her ears forward, spotting the line. Nikita looked up and ahead, smiling as her mare elegantly snapped her knees up over the first jump and seem to float the three strides in between. The mare finished the line beautifully, but knocking the oxer down. Nikita sighed but patted her mare before stopping and dismounting. She set it back up before hearing Abi's nicker to something... or someone...
